Structures and Light

Geometric structures shaped by light become dynamic architectural forms..
Structures and Light is an abstract photography series by Dan Gazit that examines the relationship between constructed geometry and illumination. Each composition is based on hand-built structures made from precisely cut foam board (Kapa), assembled into complex spatial arrangements.
The structures are photographed under controlled lighting conditions. In some images, light is projected from below using a custom-built light table, allowing illumination to pass through openings and reveal internal volumes. In others, soft directional side lighting creates contrast, emphasizing edges, depth, and spatial rhythm.
The resulting images operate between sculpture and photography, transforming simple materials into intricate architectural systems. Light becomes an active force that defines, disrupts, and reshapes the perception of structure.
The series explores how geometry, repetition, and illumination interact to construct visual space, offering a dialogue between physical form and optical experience.
