The In blue series features everyday objects – metal candlesticks, disposable cups, trophies, a lamppost, and dental floss – photographed under precise artificial lighting that gives them a renewed presence. Through the use of a shifted white balance, each object is rendered in a uniform blue hue that erases its original colors and introduces a sense of estrangement.
The blue is not natural to any of these objects, and yet it unifies them, lending a quiet, slightly cold atmosphere. The color draws the viewer in while simultaneously holding them at a distance. This chromatic manipulation – achieved through camera settings rather than digital editing – highlights the gap between what is seen and what is real, between object and perception.
