In Blue

A blue shift transforms objects, creating distance between seeing and knowing.

In Blue is a conceptual photography series by Dan Gazit exploring the transformation of everyday objects through controlled lighting and chromatic manipulation.

Objects such as metal candlesticks, disposable cups, trophies, a lamppost, and dental floss are photographed under precise artificial lighting. By deliberately shifting the camera’s white balance, their original colors are replaced with a consistent blue tonality.

This blue is not inherent to the objects, yet it unifies them. The chromatic shift creates a subtle tension between familiarity and estrangement, drawing the viewer closer while simultaneously creating distance.

Rather than relying on digital editing, the series uses in-camera techniques to explore how color influences perception. The images reveal a gap between what is seen and what is known, turning ordinary objects into visually displaced forms.
