Embedded in the Sand is a photographic series created using a layer of sand spread over a custom-built light table. With various available and handmade tools, the artist carves, presses, or moves through the sand, creating marks and traces. Light passes through the sand in different ways—thin areas glow, thicker ones darken as well as bare patches.
The result is a set of abstract images that oscillate between natural graphics and archaeological maps, between gentle drawing and precise material inquiry. The series explores memory, impression, and the interplay between matter and light, and between delicate gesture and dramatic effect.
